HOW IDAHO APPEALS WORK
THE SHORT VERSION

Idaho assesses at current market value each year and sends assessment appeals to the county board by the fourth Monday in June.

WHEN AN APPEAL MAKES SENSE
  • Comparable sales show the value is too high.
  • The property record is wrong.
WHEN IT USUALLY WILL NOT
  • The complaint is about the tax bill or local budgets.
  • You miss the June filing window.

Read the full explanation

Idaho county assessors value taxable property at 100 percent of current market value each year. If you disagree, first contact the assessor, then file with the county clerk for the county Board of Equalization by the fourth Monday in June. The board reviews the assessment, not whether the tax bill is affordable or whether local budgets are too high. This is general information, not tax advice.
