Maui County property tax appeals
The 2026 deadline was Thursday, April 9 and has passed. The next window opens in 2027.
Appeals go to Maui County Board of Review.
Hawaii's counties run separate appeals, and a 3 percent homeowner cap in Hawaii County makes the state comp-unsafe.
- The county's market value or property record is wrong.
- The appealable value can fall below any capped taxable value.
- A growth cap already holds taxable value below market.
- You miss your county's deadline or required deposit.

Hawaii's four counties administer real property assessment appeals, so the deadline, fee, and filing office depend on the island. County values are generally tied to fee simple market value, but Hawaii County's Homeowner class can limit annual assessment growth to 3 percent. That cap can leave taxable value below market, so an appeal often will not lower the bill unless the appealable value can fall below the capped value or another assessment error applies. This is general information, not tax advice.
